Ongmac Trading Pty Ltd was established in 1980 when Alec Marsh, a small engine expert, began selling Onga Water Pumps and McCulloch Chainsaws in the driveway of his Petrol Service Station in Bangalow, NSW. The name Ongmac is a combination of Onga and McCulloch. In 1982 the Company moved to Lismore, establishing their business in Conway Street. Ongmac then added Shibaura and Yanmar tractors to their services. When Yanmar was taken over by John Deere – Ongmac became a John Deere dealer.

Today Ongmac are one of the most important John Deere agents in Australia.

The German Company, Stihl, recognised Alec Marsh as a small engine expert and so Stihl was added to Ongmac agencies. Alec Marsh maintains Stihl - who manufacture brushcutters, chainsaws, blowers, etc – are absolutely the best quality products and are very good to their dealers. Working long hours to maintain service to their customers, Ongmac expanded to include Kubota Tractors and Silvan Spray Equipment. Farming in the Northern Rivers has changed over the years. Nowadays the macadamia, cane and tropical fruit industries have hit the forefront, all have specialist requirements in machinery and Ongmac had to rethink.

Their decision was to only stock and sell products that are reliable. They then chose the best brands in their field:

HOWARD Farm Machinery

HONDA Mowers, brushcutters, engines and generators

VIKING Garden Care products

STIHL Chainsaws, brushcutters, blowers, high pressure cleaners, concrete saws and vacuum cleaners

KUBOTA Tractors

JOHN DEERE Farm Machinery, tractors and lawn tractors

SILVAN Spray equipment, Nobili mulchers, Maschio hoes and harrows

Ongmac’s reputation is service, and their clients come from the region between Coffs Harbour and Tweed Heads and as far west as Tenterfield. Alec Marsh’s two sons, Dean and Shane, take an active part in the operation of the Company. Dean in Sales and Shane as Operations Manager. Staff at Ongmac total 20 plus, but the buck stops at The Marsh Family, the on-the-ball team who get things done.
